Everything you want to know about AI phone agents for Australian trade businesses.
An AI phone agent is a voice-powered system that answers, handles, and responds to phone calls automatically using artificial intelligence. It sounds like a real person, follows your business rules, books appointments, takes messages, and escalates urgent calls around the clock.
The difference from a recorded message or an answering machine is that it has a real conversation. It asks questions, listens to the answers, and responds appropriately — the same way a receptionist would.
Most callers won't know unless they directly ask. The voices are natural-sounding Australian accents, and the agents are trained to handle calls the way a great receptionist would.
If a caller directly asks whether they're speaking to a human or an AI, the agent is transparent. We don't try to deceive people — but in practice, most callers are focused on getting their question answered or their job booked, not on testing whether it's human.
Yes. AI Assistant Pro agents are built specifically for Australian businesses. The AI voice uses a natural Australian accent, and the speech recognition is tuned for Australian English — including regional accents, suburb names, and trade-specific terms like "RCD", "slab leak", or "general pest".
The agent escalates to you via SMS straight away. You get the caller's name, phone number, and a summary of what they called about, so you can call them back when you're free.
The agent is trained to recognise genuinely urgent situations — like a gas leak, a flood, or a safety emergency — and escalate those immediately rather than taking a message.
Yes. The Answer and Book plan (L2) and above connect your AI agent to your calendar or booking system. It checks availability in real time and books jobs directly without any manual step on your part.
Supported booking systems are confirmed during your setup call. Common integrations include Google Calendar, ServiceM8, and similar trade scheduling tools.
Yes. You can turn your agent on or off by sending a text message to a dedicated number. Useful for public holidays, when you have a spare moment to take calls yourself, or if you need to pause the service temporarily.
There are four plans:
Answer and Message — A$295/month + A$495 setup. The agent answers every call, takes a message, and SMS's you a summary.
Answer and Book — A$395/month + A$695 setup. As above, plus books jobs directly into your calendar.
Lead Callback — A$595/month + A$995 setup. As above, plus calls back new web or form leads within 60 seconds.
Rebook and Reactivate — A$995/month + A$1,495 setup. The full suite. Inbound answering, booking, lead callback, plus outbound contact to past customers due for their next service.
Overage is charged at A$9.90 per 30-minute block above your included minutes.
No. All plans are month-to-month. You can cancel with 5 days notice before your next billing date.
The setup fee is non-refundable once your agent build has commenced — that covers the work of building and configuring your agent from scratch. But there is no ongoing contract or minimum term.
Most clients go live within 48 hours of their intake call. The intake takes around 20 minutes — we gather your business name, services, booking rules, suburb coverage, and any special handling instructions.
Your agent is built and tested before it goes live. You approve everything before your number is switched over.
It helps to have the following ready:
Your business name and how you want calls answered. The services you offer (and any you don't want the agent to book). Your service area or the suburbs you cover. Your booking system or calendar access. Any regular rules — like not booking on certain days, or how to handle urgent after-hours calls.
If you're not sure about something, that's fine. We work through it together on the call.
Yes, with the right setup. Outbound calls to past customers with an existing business relationship are permitted under Australian law and ACMA guidelines. This covers the rebook and reactivation calls — contacting a customer who paid you last year for their annual treatment is a normal business communication.
Cold outbound calling to people who have never heard of your business and haven't opted in is not part of this service. The outbound rebook system is designed for existing customer lists only.
Call data is stored securely and used only to operate your agent. We do not sell or share your customer data with third parties. Your customer records stay yours.
Human answering services typically cost A$300 to A$600 per month for limited hours — usually business hours only, or a premium rate for after-hours. The team is shared across many businesses and doesn't know your services or booking rules in detail.
AI Assistant Pro costs from A$295 per month, answers every call 24/7, knows your specific services, prices, and booking rules, and never has a bad day. It also handles outbound callbacks and past customer rebooking — things a standard answering service won't do.
A full-time receptionist costs A$50,000 to A$65,000 per year in salary, plus superannuation, leave entitlements, and sick days. They cover roughly 40 hours a week and take holidays.
AI Assistant Pro covers every call, every hour, for A$295 to A$995 per month. It doesn't call in sick, doesn't take annual leave, and doesn't need to be trained on your business rules more than once.
For businesses that genuinely need a full-time person handling complex client relationships, a receptionist is the right call. For businesses that mostly need calls answered, jobs booked, and customers followed up — AI Assistant Pro is significantly more cost-effective.
Research consistently shows that more than 80% of callers who reach voicemail hang up without leaving a message. They call the next business on the list. The job goes elsewhere.
An AI agent answers and starts a real conversation. Even if it can't book the job on the spot, it gets the caller's details and escalates to you — so the lead is captured, not lost.
